Just ten minutes south of downtown Minneapolis, the American Swedish Institute's convenient location makes it easily accessible from anywhere in the Twin Cities or the surrounding area.

Folke Bernadotte
Folke Bernadotte Conference Room, located on the first floor of the new, modern Nelson Cultural Center and just inside the main entrance, is situated directly next to the FIKA Café making it quick and easy to find.  Perfect for an all day conference or short meeting, the room is set conference-style for up to 30 guests, with other setups easily accommodated.  Amenities in the room include a built-in buffet, house sound system, podium, projector and screen, wireless microphone, and large white board.  912 sq.ft.

Larson Hall
Larson Hall, our largest event space, seats up to 250 for buffet or plated functions and accommodates up to 400 guests for standing receptions.  Located on the second floor of the modern Nelson Cultural Center where there are no other meeting spaces, your event receives total privacy including your own pre-function space, restrooms and coat area.   The pre-function area, or Promenade space, makes for a great social area and offers breathtaking views of the courtyard and mansion with its floor to ceiling windows.  Also included in your rental is an intimate outdoor space, Hopper Terrace which provides a place for guests to step outside for fresh air and enjoy a closer view of the Turnblad Mansion.  The hall itself boasts a large dance floor, also with built-in projector and screen, wireless microphones, and a house sound system all at your disposal with no additional cost.  3700 sq.ft.

The Promenade
The Promenade located directly outside of Larson Hall can be rented independently when available.  With floor to ceiling windows this intimate space offers incredible natural lighting and an unparalleled view of the mansion and courtyard gardens.  Ideal for small dinners of 50 or less and standing receptions of up to 120, The Promenade is a unique space for dinners and receptions.  675 sq.ft.

Nelson Cultural Center 1st Floor
The first floor is a public area available for rent after hours when no other major functions are taking place within the building. Most often, this space makes a great addition to rental of the courtyard or Larson Hall. Private dinners are also available on our first floor FIKA dining area.  Please inquire for more information.  914 sq.ft.

Mansion First Floor (Den, Salon, Grand Hall)
Host your guests amidst beautiful hand-carved mahogany, a three story fireplace and beautiful painted glass windows.  This 33-room castle on Park Avenue completed in 1908 was home to Swan J. Turnblad, his wife and daughter. Turnblad, who made his fortune publishing a Swedish-language newspaper, gifted his home to the public in 1929. His legacy, now a museum and cultural center, is enjoyed by guests local and international, interested in history, art, and Swedish culture.  
A fairytale backdrop for indoor ceremonies, the Turnblad Mansion can accommodate up to 100 guests.  This unique space can also be used for standing receptions, holiday parties, and networking experiences of up to 150 guests.  Events in the mansion are timeless, elegant, and create memorable experiences. 1500 sq.ft.
Rental $1000 per hour with additional options for tour guides and docents

Mansion Front Lawn and Verandah
The mansion lawn and garden gives you the feeling of history and luxury.  With the backdrop of the Turnblad Mansion, this space is host to ceremonies, social hours or small dinner events on the front lawn and verandah.  A private space with a feeling of luxury.

Courtyard
The juxtaposition between the historic Turnblad Mansion and the modern Nelson Cultural Center makes this space like no other in the Twin Cities.  An ideal place for ceremonies, receptions and dinners, this private outdoor area is a favorite place to indulge in a warm summer evening. 2400 sq.ft.
Rental $550 (must be rented in addition to an indoor space)
Ceremony fee $1500 (includes white comfort-back folding chairs, microphone & speaker system, setup, day-of coordination, and assistance lining up to walk down the aisle)

The Stuga
This cozy room makes for a great place to have a club meeting, birthday or anniversary function, private dinner, or meeting with a focus on good conversation.  The Stuga was previously ASI’s café where museum patrons met to have a pastry and coffee, traditionally called a fika.  Full of warmth and character, the Stuga is a welcoming space that will be sure to charm your group.  519 sq.ft.

Paulson Hall
A warm and inviting room, Paulson Hall is steeped in community as the go-to gathering place for Swedish clubs, holiday parties, and community gatherings.  Adorned with traditional Dala paintings telling the story of Swedish Immigrants settling in Minnesota, the history and character of the Institute can be seen.
As our most versatile space, Paulson Hall can hold up to 100 guests for meal functions and is located on the lower level of the Turnblad Mansion, in close proximity to exhibits and galleries.  The room comes equipped with a built-in projector and screen, podium, microphone, and house sound system.  Next door, the Stuga is accessible by a private door from Paulson Hall and makes a great addition as a bar or buffet space.  1500 sq.ft.

Classrooms
The perfect space for a focused meeting or a breakout room for conferences, ASI has three classrooms available for seating up to 25 guests each.  Classrooms include tables, chairs, whiteboard, and optional portable screen & projector. Standard setup is conference style, though we are happy to accommodate alternative setups to meet your needs.  648 sq.ft.
